I’m joining the Yakezie Challenge! For those who have not heard of it, it is a 6 month challenge open to all bloggers who wish to see if they can improve their blog presence, and more importantly, develop a number of wonderful new friendships based on collaboration. Living Rich Cheaply was launched the end of April, right after my birthday. I thought about starting this blog for months, but always thought of reasons why I wouldn’t be able to do it. I don’t know if it was because I was turning a year older or what, but I finally decided to just do it. I’m glad I did because I’ve learned a lot and have interacted with great bloggers.
In the next 6 months, which ends right before the end of 2013, I’d like have an Alexa ranking below 200,000. I am currently ranked #808,869 globally so I have a ways to go.
There are so many things I want to do with my site. I definitely want to improve the content and to increase the amount of quality posts. I don’t know how some bloggers balance a full-time job, family obligations, blogging and other duties!
As for the design of the site, I really want to update it. While WordPress is relatively user-friendly, there is a ton of things that I do not know how to do, and I feel that my site needs some work. I’m thinking about looking for someone on Freelancer or Odesk to help with the technical side of website design. I’m also interested in increasing my knowledge of WordPress by taking course on Treehouse or another online learning program. I might also try to enlist a blog mentor at Bloggers helping Bloggers. So much to do, so little time!
There are plenty of bloggers out there with interesting and engaging blogs with excellent designs. You guys were new to this at one point in time. What advice do you guys have? Please share! Thanks in advance.
Congratulations! I think you will find Yakezie extremely helpful! Email me if you ever need anything!

Thanks Jacob, that means a lot!
Congrats – that’s great. Go to Modest Money’s site and check out his blogger tips (it’s a year long series, done once a week). I’ve found it very helpful!

Thanks Cat! I will definitely go check out his blogger tips.
Congrats! Joining the challenge is definitely the most impactful thing I’ve done so far. My alexa ranking has dropped like crazy since then and I’ve been able to do a few guest posts that have helped as well, mostly just in terms of connecting with specific bloggers a little more closely. My site needs some serious design work as well though. Add that to the list of things to handle someday…

Thanks Matt! That is great advice. You did some work on your site, I think the design looks good.
Congrats Andrew! You’ll do great and the support of the community there is great. Like Holly said, if you ever need any help or have questions feel free to shoot me an email. That Alexa score should come down in no time as well.

Thanks John! It is great that fellow bloggers offer their help…it is definitely a great community. It is greatly appreciated.
Going through the challenge was a great way for me to begin blogging. Now that I’ve changed blogs, it’s weird going through it again, but still fun. Welcome to Yakezie! We’ll be waiting for you at the finish line…. Feel free to ask for help whenever. Consider Yakezie your own BHB club!

Awesome! I am in the midst of the challenge as well and everyone involved is very helpful and supportive. As others have said, let me know if I can help and I look forward to seeing both of our sites grow with the challenge.

Yes you should!
Welcome to the challenge. Just make sure to pace yourself. It can be enticing to compare yourself to the other blogs, but that will usually take you off your rhythm. Blogging is all about the long haul. Let me know if you need anything.

Thanks for the valuable advice!
That’s great that you’re joining. It’s something I keep seeing it around, but as my blog was only launched about a month ago, I figure I should focus more on content right now. I also don’t know how people juggle blogging and a full-time job, on top of other things. It’s been slightly challenging for me. I would be interested in hearing how it goes for you!
